Stories That Grow With Children

Varta Books publishes meaningful children's literature in regional languages.

Who We Are

Varta Books is the publishing division of Varta Literature Foundation, a not-for-profit company co-founded by Priya Narayanan and Priyanka Dave in 2024 to promote children's literature in regional languages. It is particularly dedicated to fostering a love for reading in Gujarati children, both in India and globally. We aim to publish fun and engaging content in Gujarati or Gujarati–English bilingual formats to encourage children to explore their mother tongue. Our vibrant and inviting publications are designed to create immersive reading experiences, nurturing a lifelong passion for regional literature from a young age.

Why We Exist

We believe children's books can do more than entertain. The right story helps a child make sense of feelings, discover new worlds, and understand others with kindness and curiosity. Varta Books publishes stories that are gentle, meaningful, and full of wonder. Varta Books curates titles that invite reflection rather than noise.

What "Varta" Means

"Varta" means stories. Stories told aloud, shared at bedtime, read under blankets with a torch, and remembered long after childhood. Our name reflects our belief that stories are how children explore the world — and their place in it.

We choose stories that children want to hear again and again — the kind that become favorites, shape memories, and live on in family bookshelves.

Our Key Intents

Under the larger umbrella of Varta Literature Foundation, our work is guided by a set of core intentions that shape everything we do.

Promoting Children's Literature

We publish regional-language, English, and bilingual books — across fiction and non-fiction, academic and non-academic categories — that are meaningful, engaging, and age-appropriate.

Encouraging Reading in the Mother Tongue

We support the preservation of regional languages by organizing literary events, book fairs, workshops, and seminars centered on regional-language children's literature.

Community & Philanthropic Initiatives

We undertake charitable initiatives for community benefit, including supporting underprivileged children, promoting literacy, bringing thoughtfully created contemporary books to government schools and rural communities, setting up rural libraries, and partnering with initiatives aligned with the educational and literary goals of the Foundation.

Our Values

Imagination

We celebrate stories that open doors to magical worlds and endless possibilities.

Empathy

Great children's stories help young readers understand feelings — their own and others'.

Joy

Reading should feel like delight — full of laughter, comfort, and discovery.

Growth

The best stories grow with children, offering new meaning each time they return.
